Family Resources (English and Español)

Each unit includes a Family Resource that offers explanations of key concepts throughout the unit, as well as problems for you and your student(s) to try at home. The Family Resource for each unit can be found on the Unit Overview page.

Dear families,

This year, your student is participating in Desmos Math 6–A1. You play an important role in their math experience, so we wanted to reach out to introduce ourselves and tell you a bit about who we are. 

Desmos Classroom is a math education team on a mission to help every student learn math and love learning math. Our curriculum team is composed of former math teachers who love both the flexibility of paper and the power of computers to provoke wonder, enable mathematical creativity, and connect ideas.

Here is what you can expect for your student this year:

• A blend of learning on paper and with technology.

• Standards-aligned lessons that help students express their brilliance every day.

• Feedback that shows students what their ideas mean without judgment and encourages perseverance and revision.

• Resources within each lesson to meet the needs of diverse learners.

• A Family Resource for each unit that includes explanations of key math concepts and problems to try with your student.

We are excited that your student’s school is partnering with us this year. We hope your student will enjoy exploring math using technology, working with friends to solve problems, and learning about different concepts.

Queridas familias,

Este año su estudiante estará participando en el plan de estudios de matemáticas de Desmos. Debido a que ustedes desempeñan una función importante en su formación matemática, decidimos presentarnos y describir en detalle quiénes somos.

Desmos es un equipo dedicado a la enseñanza matemática, con la misión de ayudar a todos los estudiantes a aprender matemáticas y que se diviertan haciéndolo. El equipo detrás de nuestro plan de estudios está compuesto por ex profesores de matemáticas, que adoran tanto la flexibilidad del papel como el poder de las computadoras para generar curiosidad, permitir la creatividad matemática y facilitar la conexión entre ideas.

A continuación lo que pueden esperar de su estudiante en este año:

• Una combinación de aprendizaje en papel y con tecnología.

• Lecciones estandarizadas que ayuden a los estudiantes a expresar su genialidad a diario.

• Comentarios que muestren a los estudiantes el significado de sus ideas sin juzgarlos y que estimulen tanto la perseverancia como la mejora.

• Un recurso familiar para cada unidad, que incluye explicaciones de los conceptos matemáticos claves y problemas para resolver con su estudiante.

Nos entusiasma la colaboración con la escuela de su estudiante este año. Esperamos que el estudiante disfrute al explorar las matemáticas con ayuda de tecnología, trabaje con sus amigos para resolver problemas y aprenda los diferentes conceptos.
